I set it to "localhost" and set the "listen" to the IP number thats is being forwarded to it on port 80

that cleared up the error message and it now reports that it's started

but it doesn't

ie:

 apachectl start
/usr/sbin/apachectl start: httpd started
liberty:/home/john# apachectl stop
/usr/sbin/apachectl stop: httpd (no pid file) not running
liberty:/home/john#

any ideas?
