Who said it has to be a device file?  (tested, this time)  :-)  

  rm -rf /dev/cdrom
  mkdir /dev/cdrom
  mount -t iso9660 -o ro /dev/hdb /dev/cdrom
  find /dev/cdrom -type f -exec cat {} \> /dev/null \;

It's not weird, it's unix.
