Sendmail wont accept outside mail properly

Hello,

I'm trying to configure sendmail to work properly on Debian. The problem
is when connecting to sendmail, specifying a
MAIL FROM: <foo@bar.com>
If the domain is anything other than domains listed in local-host-names,
it says:
553 5.1.2 <foo@bar.com>... Unrecognized host name bar.com.

The local resolver works, and my service.switch has:
hosts	files dns

This is preventing me from receiving any mail from any other machine,
regardless if its to me or not.

I'm using sendmail 8.11.3+8.12.0.Beta7-8 from Woody.
