X4 crashes my system

Hi all

I'm running sid, and this problem has happened me two times.

As I use sid, X version is 4.1, and my kernel is 2.4.9.

Well, the problem comes when switching from a console to the running
X server. That is, I'm running X11 with icewm on it (or kde, or whatever
it is) and I go to the console... then I do some things and go back to
X11 pressing Alt+F9 (yeah, I've two more consoles than usual :).
Ok then... usually it works perfectly, but sometimes (it has happened to
me twice), my system crashes. X11 gets unusable. It seems that it can't
redraw completly the screen, because it leaves a black bar on the top
of it without drawing. Then, no more mouse movement, or console
switching. I can still use the sysrq kernel feature to sync and unmount
my disks, and I suppose my machine is still reachable trought network
(haven't tried), so kernel is still alive.

BTW, my video card is an ATI Xpert'98.

Any ideas about what's happening??? It's very annoying...

Thanks.
