I see that you have not mentioned which dist you are using. Humm.
Well as I have already told you how to get it working on Potato I
checked my Woody box, for you.

partimage - Linux/UNIX uility to saves partitions
reiserfsprogs - User-level tools for ReiserFS filesystems

I'm sure that a review of this lists archives would have helped you
find the answer to your question much faster.  It was quite a
discussed topic over the last month or so.
