onstream DI-30 (30 gb ide adr sreamer)

Hi all,

I'm considering buing a tapestreamer of some kind. As i also have to move
large quantities of data now and then (3 to 4 Gb) i'm looking for a way to
be able to write my tape under Linux and go to my friends and read it on
ther Windows box (Yes, they are my friends, they are just not enlightened in
the way of the GNU/Linux) At first i thought this would be no prob. at all
(Zip on Linux is compatible with Windows Zip). I asked Onstream about this
and they say:

"A backup made under windows cannot be read under Linux because under
windows a DI-30 uses the Qic 172 protocol and under Linux it uses the Qic
157 protocol."

Does anyone know a way to nip this in the butt? (w.o. me installing windows
OR my friends installing debian...)

TIA,
Nico de Haer
