Why don't you install the source from debian?  Point your src line in
/etc/apt/sources.list to testing or unstable and run the following
commands -
# apt-get update
# apt-get -b source binutils

Snags the source and builds a deb package then run -
# dpkg -i package_name.deb
to install.
