Have you read the section on "Why doesn't my backspace, delete, or some
other key work?" in /usr/share/doc/xfree86-common/FAQ.gz?

(By the way, I copied and pasted this answer from a mail I sent to this
list last Monday, so it should definitely be in the archives. :))
