    $ man debsums

If not found:

    $ apt-get install debsums

Last few lines of strace output may indicate error message.
Unfortunately, your screen is too small to read from here, so you'll
have to include output in your email for anyone to assist. Last 40-100
lines of output should be sufficient:

    $ strace rm foo 2>&1 | tail -40 > rm.strace

Actually, a normal call gets about 28 lines of output, if yours produces
significantly more, there's a problem.
