It's really up to you.  We run Solaris at work, and usually all
3rd party Solaris packages will install under /opt.  However,
when we install packages from the net, like perl, vim, etc, they
generally are installed under /usr/local.  I haven't seen much
of a use for /opt under linux, but opinions vary ;)
