Maybe you have ls aliased:
$ type -p ls
/bin/ls
$ alias ls='/bin/ls -l'
$ type ls
ls is aliased to /bin/ls -l'
$ type -p type
$ type -a ls
ls is aliased to /bin/ls -l'
ls is /bin/ls
