Seems it was calling `rpm' instead of `dpkg'.
I hacked the install-win4lin.sh file, adding:

  trap Interrupt_Proc 1 2 3 15
  
  Check_installed_$PKGMGR
+ PKGMGR=dpkg
  
  while true
  do
