well, unix is a brand name and nothing can call itself unix without
passing all the certification tests and paying whatever dues it has to to
carry the name. from what i've heard its very expensive and not really
worth it. why associate with something that is on the way out :/(slowly
but surely)
as for NeXT and unix i dunno, they may very well be unix certified i
haven't noticed myself, i don't know what their platform was about anyways
