You are running menu-1.3, from bo, I can tell.

Not so easy from the silly error message that menu-1.3 gives.
Menu-1.5, from unstable, is _much_ better at giving sane error messages.

Unfortunately (for you, anyway) menu-1.5 is linked against libc6.

So, for you I've put a libc5-linked menu-1.5-4 in:

  ftp://rulcmc.leidenuniv.nl/debian/upload/libc5

Please install that one, and look at the error message menu-1.5
gives. Probably it will all be clear, but if you still don't know
what is wrong, just mail me the error message you get.
