ELF (Important, espc. f/ developers)
Many package developers have received patches for ELF support, or
reports on ELF compiles, but only two have as yet installed the
ELF packages themselves. The most likely reason is probably a
misconception, which I'll try to clear up hear.
- ELF and a.out don't bite. Installing the ELF utils does not mean
that you can do a.out compiles anymore. You can switch between
ELF and a.out compiles easy if you make a /usr/elf directory
as I've described earlier.
- You do not have to recompile your whole system. A system can
work with a mixture of a.out and ELF binaries.
So, package maintainers, please install the ELF packages if you
have the space, and test you source packages with the ELF utils.
This will smoothen our move to ELF.
Thanks,
Ray
