Or how about just turning on the fan when it is needed? Would that be an
acceptable compromise? When a Linux CPU is idle, it shuts down and stays
very cool. If the fan could run only when the CPU temp reaches a certain
point, would that be acceptable?

Also, what about the power supply fan? Most units have those as well.
Usually two fans in a PC.
