I'd recommend anyone working with CUPS to read this sample
chapter that Kurt Pfeifle wrote about SAMBA
(http://www.linuxprinting.org/kpfeifle/SambaPrintHOWTO/).  He has
a *LOT* about CUPS and its workings.  It's worth reading even if
you have no interest in SAMBA.
