Paul Johnson throws in his link to 'smart questions' from time to time,
as do others, IIRC. Regrettably, I don't have it available at the
moment.

I think the lack of replies is partly due to the fact that you don't
mention what you would like to test. Speed? Throughput? Vendor? Date of
manufacture, ;-)?

To know if it is broken or not, I recommend the streaming video
suggestion others have put forward.

To test for speed and throughput, a whole range of tools is available.
For example, hdparm for disks, netpipe for network, etc. etc.

As Vineet Kumar puts it so nicely, lots of tools for very specific
purposes. I don't think anybody has written a GUI for all those tools
strung together...
