Thank you.  I do have magicfilter installed.

Is there some way that I can decipher if my problem is with my parport/lp
device or with my spooler (lprng) or filter?

The fact that directly sending a text file to the lp device still does not
cause any activity leads me to suspect that I haven't configured parport
properly, but I realize this is not necessarily true ( my printer may just do
nothing when sent a text file directly).

Do I have to set some command line arguments when I boot for the parallel
port to work?
