You may have your conenction to your ISP working OK, but do you have valid
values in your /etc/resolv.conf?  Can you ping specific IP addresses, but
not hostnames?  (For instance, can you ping 216.136.171.205, but not
www.linux.com?)  That was something that goofed me up the first time I
tried to get connected.  IF there are no nameservers in your resolv.conf,
you'll need to add one or more.
