Do this and be very carefull.
Take a look at your /etc/apt/sources.list add a line for unstable. Do a apt-get update then do a apt-get install sndconfig. Then do not wait do not pass go do not collect $200 comment out the unstable line from your sources. Then do a apt-get update and press on. Yes there are some problems with doing it this way and yes apt might complain at you in the future but with the 1 or 2 packages I really need (pdq and xpdq) that I have done this with I have not broken anything. Maybe others can tell you bad stories but it works for me.
