You're making life difficult on yourself. I don't think Scwm is GNOME
compliant -- so don't try to use it with GNOME. Select either the
"Xsession" or "Debian" sessian option from GDM to use Scwm *without*
GNOME. You really shouldn't need to muck with the scripts in /etc/gdm/,
possibly the config file is all you should mess with.
You might want to set x-window-manager to a GNOME compliant
window-manager and just create a ~/.xession to use scwm. You might also
want to install xsm so then you can create a bazillion different X
session types. Up to you. There's no foolin' GNOME into using a
non-GNOME compliant window-manager.
