So you have a Debian etch or sid system, and you do have a symlink
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Mar 16 13:07 /usr/share/texmf-texlive/doc -> ../doc/texlive-doc
as well as a directory /usr/share/doc/texlive-doc/ with many
subdirectories in it, among them
/usr/share/doc/texlive-doc/latex/amsmath/
which contains a symlink
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 56 Mar 16 13:07 /usr/share/doc/texlive-doc/latex/amsmath/amsldoc.pdf.gz -> ../../../texlive-latex-base/latex/amsmath/amsldoc.pdf.gz
and you also do have the file
/usr/share/doc/texlive-latex-base/latex/amsmath/amsldoc.pdf.gz
and still the ls command above does not output anything? What's the
output of "ls --version"? If you change the grep above to just "grep
doc", do you get something?
