I'm not sure. Maybe the list of current groups is inherited from father
process to child process and initialized at Unix session start (yes,
there is a notion of Unix sessions, different from X sessions, but I've
lent the book I have about the subject, thus cannot look this up in
detail).

Er, you figured out that was the way to solve the problem reported in
this bug. This is written in your first message. You called it a
workaround and nevertheless reported the bug with severity grave. That
made me think you weren't ready to accept this "workaround".
