Bug#235401: A probable cause of failure
Hi,
By examining the installations of tetex-bin in chroot with or without
apt-utils installed (absence of apt-utils does indeed trigger the bug), I
have found that the file /etc/texmf/language.dat is different in two cases
and seems to be causing the problem. I am attaching to this message two
files, language.dat_bad, which is the version of /etc/texmf/language.dat
without apt-utils installed, causing postinst to fail, while
language.dat_good is the "good" version, obtained with apt-utils in place.
It is easy to see, that it is indeed the cause of error by replacing "bad"
file with the "good" file in the conditions, when postinst fails and
running 'texconfig init' by hand (all the required files are generated
nicely then). I have absolutely no idea so far what interactions
between the two packages lead to the undesired effect (part of postinst
which handles language selection is not easy to decipher).
Hope it helps,
Jurij Smakov jurij@wooyd.org
