Looking at the pfb files provided by tetex-extra (all paths are relative
to /usr/share/texmf/fonts/type1; order is the one obtained with
'dpkg -L tetex-extra'):
bitstrea/charter already provided by X
bluesky/cm skipping (well, there may be some of them that would be
interesting to have outside of TeX, I just didn't
look closely; also, I didn't check the quality of
the TrueType fonts provided in latex-xft-fonts,
which I suppose were obtained by some sort of
conversion from the MF sources or the Type 1 fonts
given by the AMS); would need further investigation
bluesky/cyrillic not useful to me, but probably to someone else; don't
seem to be available to X apps [With The Packages
Installed In My Sid Chroot]
bluesky/euler don't seem to be available to X apps [WTPIIMSC]
[...] mostly symbol fonts, many of which cause gfontview
to perform an endless error dialog box loop (I don't
know why); that being said, some of them don't cause
any error (e.g., bluesky/symbols) and could be
interesting, especially if the characters have
standard PostScript names (which I think is not
always possible); would need further investigation
public/eurosym not many characters in these (5 in every variation,
as it seems), but probably could be useful...
public/omega there seems to be interesting stuff in there, that
doesn't seem to be available to X apps [WTPIIMSC]
public/xypic very specialized symbol fonts (such as short segments
with various slopes)...
urw/avantgar all these seem to be in gsfonts, although the names are
[...] often slightly changed; but you can see the mapping by
urw/zapfding looking at the FullName in the afm files; for
instance, under avantgar/, you find the URW Gothic L
family, under helvetic/, the Nimbus Sans L family,
under palatino/, the URW Palladio L family, etc. So,
it seems that it is not useful to export these fonts.
HTH a bit.
