it seemed listings.sty (not listing.sty ;) to be changed
substantially.  I couldn't tell if these are bugs or only
changed feature but, more importantly, listings package was 
revealed to be not DFSG-free (possibly) so it was removed 
in 20021025-3 already.

It will be also removed from the upstream teTeX unless the 
author changes its license.

I don't know if I should close this one or let it open
in these circumstance.
