Oh, I knew it had to be more complicated than it looked.

Sorry, I should've spent more time looking into the details.
You've probably already noticed that my changes moved the contents
of /var/spool/texmf rather than deleting them (even if it is
possible to just regenerate fonts, I can't see any reason to
aggravate people more than absolutely necessary).

What other kinds of stuff end up in /var/spool/texmf?  When I
looked on my machine, all I saw were font-related files.
