It seems your minimal Potato included tetex-base.

Okay, then it is almost evident but please check that
there is no /etc/X11/Xresources/tetex-base
Perhaps "dpkg --purge tetex-base" (you might need --force-depends)
and install tetex-base again will solve the problem, I guess.
