Bug#516176: upgrade-reports: etch->Lenny (2009-02-17): "SPACEBAR" not working when X is up
Package: upgrade-reports
Severity: normal
-- System Information:
Debian Release: 5.0
APT prefers stable
APT policy: (500, 'stable')
Architecture: i386 (i686)
Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores)
Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8)
Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash
First of all congratulations on your new Debian release !
Previous release (before upgrade): 2.6.18
Method of upgrade : apt-get update
apt-get dist upgrade
Problem Description :
My spacebar is not working on any gnome2-based GUI application
(text-editors ,browsers, web pages, Gnome terminals etc).
I can see the cursor blinking faster when Spacebar is pressed (i.e. when
I'm writing in a text file) but the visual result is smg like this :
"Hellomynameisjohn,Ican'tcomposeemails" .
--->The result : I am forced to use CTRL+ALT+F1 , F2 ... terminals as
a workaround...
This problem actually appeared the day before (2009-02-16) the upgrade
when i installed the latest stable Pidgin package from Debian repositories.
Pidgin also installed the latest gnome2 GUI-relating packages and
libraries in order to work. Since then I am having the above mentioned
problem.
*** Minor issue ***: keyboard Layout switching between
languages also does not work on Lenny .
I tried failsafe Gnome session and other sessions in Login
options but no improvement seen.
I suspect the problem has to do with the new gnome2 packages
because with gnome 1.xxx (can't remember the version) I had no such
problem.
Should you need further information please contact me....
Thank you for your time...keep it up that way !
