Trying to compile a pkg atk-1.9-0 and it requires newer glib-2.0 version then what sarge installed... So, I obtained, compiled, and installed version 2.6.2 and put it in /opt so it would not cause any conflicts or break my current version (2.4.8) I edited ld.so.conf and added /opt/lib then ran ldconfig. Now when I try to compile the package this is the message I get. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- checking for GLIB - version >= 2.5.7... *** 'pkg-config --modversion glib-2.0' returned 2.6.2, but GLIB (2.4.8) *** was found! If pkg-config was correct, then it is best *** to remove the old version of GLib. You may also be able to fix the error *** by modifying your LD_LIBRARY_PATH enviroment variable, or by editing *** /etc/ld.so.conf. Make sure you have run ldconfig if that is *** required on your system. *** If pkg-config was wrong, set the environment variable PKG_CONFIG_PATH *** to point to the correct configuration files no configure: error: *** GLIB 2.5.7 or better is required. The latest version of *** GLIB is always available from ftp://ftp.gtk.org/. If GLIB is installed *** but not in the same location as pkg-config add the location of the file *** glib-2.0.pc to the environment variable PKG_CONFIG_PATH. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've set the PKG_CONFIG_PATH to /opt/lib/pkgconfig and exported it then did echo $PKG_CONFIG_PATH to verify it before trying the compile again... I'm not really sure where to go from here.. Note: Using Sarge, Linux Kernel ver 2.6.8-1-386 Note: Installed the newer version in /opt because I'm afraid i'll break something terribly if I tried to update/replace the current version. If anyone has a 'not to complex' howto on that procedure, I'd like to see it. I'm not really TOO afraid of doing these things if I have good instructions.. TIA.. mike.. houston,tx -- Cheers: Mike ..
