From some discussion I read about on linux-kernel it seems that some kernel
release changed the behaviour of kill(-1), something killall5 isn't
prepared for. I have the same problem, and I think this is related to this
kernel 'bug'. At some point they reverted the change as lots of software
didn't handle it well.

Which kernel release are you running?
