Boot Floppy 3.0.18 Installation Report

Equipment: IBM Thinkpad with Pentium II 300mhz processor.

Downloaded rescue, boot and driver floppies from web site.

Loaded above floppies, configured PCMCIA, dhcp network settings
then downloaded base system from http site.

Ran tasksel and selected typical configuration. Download and
configuration required approx two hours.

     Comments:
     1. After loading drivers, installation prompts for network
configuration as choice #1 followed by PCMCIA configuration as choice
#2. At that point, the installation script should be aware that I am
loading on a PCMCIA equipped laptop and require PCMCIA configuration
before network.

     2. After reboot, a network profile screen comes up when starting.
I selected a static IP plus the other applicable items, but system came
up unconfigured. Not sure what actually happened at that point. I then
configured networking manually and continued with the installation.

     3. I attempted a Red Hat, Mandrake and Debian installation on
PCMCIA equipped laptop.
Red Hat and Mandrake failed completely. Both got lost configuring
PCMCIA and never recovered. Congratulations to Debian which had no
problems.

     4. I consider this a minor aggravation but software updating is a
process which requires almost constant attention. There seems to be a
query for information every few minutes which causes the process to wait
for input.

     5. In summary, the installation looks like it is getting ready for
prime time. Using a text based installation provides the ability to
load on almost any type of hardware. Good work.
