I think you're confused.  I don't think there are any installation
method which will downgrade your installed package to match the
version on the archive.

I suggest the following /etc/apt/sources.list file, at least:

# main
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian frozen main contrib non-free
# alternate
#deb http://debian.midco.net/debian frozen main contrib non-free
#
# non-us
deb http://sunsite.org.uk/pub/unix/Linux/debian-non-US slink non-US
# alternate
#deb ftp://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US slink/binary-$(ARCH)/


I have to have the alternates handy since archives do get wierd every
now and then.
