``Incosistent console''

Salut,

I'm trying to boot a SPARCserver 630MP with a 2.1r4 image.  I
have a Type4 keyboard and a Falco Infinity serial console
attached to the machine.  The mysterious "Inconsistent console"
message appears after trying to load the kernel image.  The only
documentation reference I have found regarding this is the
ultralinux.org FAQ: "You might want to check the NULL-modem cable
from the console to the machine."  What do I want to check?
