I just noticed that I made a typo in the Depends: field (gvfs-backend  
-> gvfs-backends).

I just uploaded 1.8.0+9 of mate-desktop-environment to unstable,  
.debdiff between 1.8.0+8 and 1.8.0+9 is attached.
