Are you running a kernel with CONFIG_BLK_STATS turned on?
Do you have /proc/diskstats?  Does it have sane data?

I don't know though and you should probably file a bug as per:
http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting
so we can track it and keep you updated.
