Bug#573080: kdm login screen wont send me to kde desktop.

I tried kubuntu and had this same problem. I found help on a wiki and the solution was to run this command. #kwriteconfig --file kwinrc --group Compositing --key Enabled --type bool False. After running the command, the problem was gone. I did not like kubuntu and decided to go back to debian. I downloaded the netinstall .iso for debian 6 and when the install was complete, I had the problem with the login. Here are some details. I type in my username and then my p-word. Then the box pops up and I see the little picture of a harddrive, then the next picture is so dim that I cannot see what it is and then kdm goes back to the login screen. My box has a VIA board with onboard video.
