Bug#599825: kttsd: It is not possible, to choose any language

Package: kttsd
Severity: grave
Tags: squeeze
Justification: renders package unusable

-- System Information:
Debian Release: squeeze/sid
  APT prefers testing
APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable')
Architecture: x86_64

Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores)
Locale: LANG=de_DE@euro, LC_CTYPE=de_DE@euro (charmap=ISO-8859-15)
Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash

Dear maintainer-team,

I tried hard, to get kttsd running, but I found no way. Whilst the last
running version 4.3.4-1 is working perfectly, with all versions above using
festival it is not possible, to choose any language.

Of course, I looked into the documentation, but the documentation is too
old: It is for versions kde 3.5.10 (==kttsd 4.3.4-1 and older).

Speech-dispatcher is running well. I also tried other modules besides festival,
like espeak, but with no success.

In kttsmgr I found no way, to add any speaker or language. To find none
means: There is none shown, and none can be chosen.

At the moment my workaround is, to set kttsd on hold to version 4.3.4-1, as
any newer version do not work.

I do not know, where to look any more. If required, I will be pleased, to
send any configuration file you need. I suppose, this is a bug.

Is there any more information I can give, to help?

Best regards

Hans-J. Ullrich
