Package: diald
Version: 0.99.4-1
Severity: normal

/usr/sbin/cvt-pppconfig line 115:
# Write local and remote address if not already given
print "local 192.168.0.1\n" unless $nolocal;
print "remote 192.168.0.2\n" unless $noremote;

$nolocal/$noremote is set if a local/remote address is found in the ppp options
file. Some sites use these IP addresses for hosts on internal private
networks, however, and diald will cause a loss of connectivity to them by
assigning these addresses to the ethertap interface. This means that when the
connection is down, packets for 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 may be dropped on
the floor (if the connection is blocked) or cause the connection to come up (if
not).

diald should not interfere with internal network communication. Does the tap0
interface require an IP address at all to be useful? If not, it should have
none. If it does require an IP address, the user should be prompted for
reserved IP addresses that are not in use. debconf should make this a snap.
