Python 3.3

I just wanted to make people aware of the upstream Python 3.3 schedule. 3.3
alpha 3 was tagged today and we're less than two months away from beta 1.
Georg Brandl (the 3.3 release manager) sent out this message today:

http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-dev/2012-May/119157.html

PEP 398 covers the 3.3 release schedule and major features, including the PEPs
either already in, or still being considered:

http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0398/

I'm sending this message because if there's anything that you feel is
important for 3.3 to help make Python on Debian better, now is the time to
speak up. The still-to-be-committed PEPs that are on my radar as it relates
to Debian are PEP 420 (the new new namespace PEP), and PEP 405 (virtual
environments).

I will likely be sprinting with some local Pythonistas on Thursday to finish
up the PEP 420 branch (which replaces PEP 402 and which I think has a very
high likelihood of being accepted and merged). I'm not particularly planning
on contributing to PEP 405, but I still think it would be very useful.

Aside from large features, are there are any wildly popular modules that might
make good candidates for the 3.3 stdlib? Note that to be considered for
stdlib inclusion, the modules have to have had a popular, stable history of
use on the Cheeseshop, and *must* have permission and cooperation from the
upstream module developers. mock is a good example of such a module that got
included in 3.3. The ipaddr library is as well, though that might get the
"provisional" tag. I'd love to see email6 make it in too, but I'm less
confident that will be ready in time.

Cheers,
-Barry
