Post DebConfX 'stay/get involved' template [Was: Re: [Debconf-team] DebConf Future Events]

Hi team

If we did our job, there should be a few more of these requests coming through. I would even go further and have a link on static DebConf websites (and the main debconf.org site?) with something along the lines of "So you missed DebConfX?", and a link to a page/(press release?) giving information like below, adding the link where to access the talks and whatever else you think (fundraising?) need to be included (while staying short and punchy).

This could be shaped into a template that can be modified each year. What do you think?

regards
B

P.S. larjona, cnote, I am still in the same position about the publicity team. I would like to get/stay involved, but time is not my friend. This may change in a few weeks...

Hi Kuziwa

Thanks for getting in touch, sorry to hear you missed DebConf16!

The Debian Conference is an international conference. It was held in Cape Town this year, but it moves around - next year it is in Montreal, Canada.

The main place for information is at http://debconf.org/, but there are many ways to get involved. As an added incentive, getting involved, and staying involved, means you could be part of about half of the attendees that may get bursaries to attend the conference anywhere in the world.

Getting involved can be through becoming a Debian Developer, or through helping with Publicity, or translating the documentation in Debian - the possibilities are endless!

In terms of getting involved locally, I'd recommend joining the local user groups. I am part of CLUG - the Cape Linux Users' group, but there are many across South Africa and beyond. Some are listed here (internal working wiki): https://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf16/DebianDayMessy#Who_are_the_local_community_stakeholders.3F

Please feel free to get in touch off-mailing list if you need help.

regards

Greetings, I hope that this email finds you well. I was disappointed to have to miss the 2016 edition of the Deb Conference this year in Capetown and I wanted to get a bit more information about future events.

Please would you be so kind as to direct me where I could get such information? I'd really be excited to be part of the next Deb Conference and related events.

Kind Regards,
Kuziwa Sachikonye
