The pppconfig script went well, apart from the fact that it didn't detect my modem (so i entered it manually). The pon [provider] script didn't do anything, and also didn't give me any error messages. I know my modem isn't a winmodem because it works under Mandrake linux. Also, WvDial detected my modem in Mandrake linux. My modem is on /dev/ttyS0 (COM1). Any help appreciated.

Hi Ceri,

Sorry to hear about your problems. While I haven't looked inside the
wvdial c++ code to know what's going on or what might be wrong, the pon
system is a good one and has been reliable for me. Since it's a shell
script you can see what's going on inside.

On a minor note, I would recommend you use a symbolic link of /dev/modem
to point to your tty. This may sound simple, but it's really saved me
some problems when configuring (and reconfiguring) my machine.

Good luck,
