This is just a workaround. The proper fix is adding "contrib" and "non-free"
to the Debian Ports FTP mirror which is something that I cannot do myself but
only the Debian Ports FTP admins.

Well, I'm sorry but that's just how things are. I don't have the super power
to make all necessary changes in Debian myself. If you want better support
for Debian Ports, raise your voice on the debian-devel mailing list.
