Hi all, hi Sven,

I do not know... À vrai dire, my motivation to investigate further
decreased strongly when I was informed that the "linux32" solves the
problem. My original goal was to answer the question: "Can powerpc .debs
be build on a regular basis on G5 (or power5) machines ?" and I have got
the answer :)

However, here is a brief summary anyway.

1,669 packages were successfully built. I have looked for the string
'build system type' in their logs, and 457 have it. In 353 cases the
type matches 'pc-' (most likely 'powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu'), and in 110
cases, it matches '64-' (most likely 'powerpc64-unknown-linux-gnu').

126 packages failed to build, and out of them 34 have the 'build system
type' string in their build log. 25 decided that the build system type
was powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu, and 9 decided powerpc64-unknown-linux-gnu.
These are argus, cln, gclcvs, lilypond, openmash, opensp, php4-ps,
pilot-link and realtimebattle. My impression is that only in the case of
argus the cause of the failure is the wrong guess of build system type.

If somebody is interested to dig in the logs, they are (more or less
temporarly) available on my website, at

Have a nice day,
