Machines with that video chip are too slow to give good DVD playback
results under Linux. Depending whether it is G3 or G4 based, and
depending on processor speed, results can vary from unuseable to barely
watchable.

The problem is that the processor needs to do most of the decoding work
in software. The only exception is colorspace conversion, which,
mandating working Xvideo, will be done by the graphics chip. Xvideo
support can be checked with xvinfo.

Yes, because MacOS has access to the video decoding hardware in the ATI
chip, which Linux does not have.
