ATI Rage Video and XWindows?

Does anyone have a working XWindows/XFree86 configuration with an ATI 
Rage 128 video card? (I have an iMac) During logging into the system, 
at the point where it calls startx, the monitor blanks, returns, blanks 
a couple more times and then says the configuration is wrong. Here is 
the pertinent part of the log:
