It can take any laptop memory. Apple shops tend to charge you some
insane rate!

The one in Malaysia tried to sell me for over USD$100 an Apacer 256MB
module that ran at 133MHz, for my G3, 800MHz iBook2. For that price, I
demanded a Kingston.

Yes. Standard memory works fine. There is no Apple branded memory (I
think).
