Booting mol from a file (was: Re: reinstalling MacOS without wiping a Debian setup (partition, boot))

I tried exactly this trick this some time ago to play with mol
for the first time, before putting it for "production". Since
	I don't have enough space, I created a perforated file with a
	simple perl script.

The installation of mol from stable was perfect, even though I
had to compile my own modules for my own kernel. Then, mol
could boot from CD, be installed on the file (which was the
target filesystem) and everything was ok.

But how do you actually boot from the file? The obvious
methods of treating the file as a block device didn't work for
me. I suspect that the problem was that the file didn't have a
	partition table.

Are there any hints for getting mol working with debian's
woody? Or are you running a newwer mol?

An uncle of mine lost one of his eyes this very same way when
	he was a kid. :-(
