As of kernel 2.4.0pre-something (I think it was 7 or 8) ADB pointers are
merged into the input layer.  This means that one of the mouseX devices in
/dev/input is actually the trackpad.  /dev/input/mice is a combination of
the input from all mouse devices in the input layer (currently, ADB and
USB).  If your computer is not recognizing the trackpad, the only things I
can think of is A) your trackpad doesn't work, or B) Some option was not
compiled in when it should have been.
